on holiday – shrimp fest ’11

What an amazing weekend, I’m fully refreshed and it was just the right amount of time that I’m not even sad that it ended. Okay, maybe I’m lying, but that doesn’t even matter. I look forward to making this a tradition with friends. I had so much fun with these shrimps that I didn’t take too many pictures but it’s all been captured in my heart. Between the cajun seafood, the waving down people for parking to the random booths we saw, the people dressed as pirates everywhere, the wonderfully sweet $6 lemonade, the Hookah, the corn-hole, the bike ride to the beach and the ridiculously awesome people we were with…how could one not enjoy their time on Fernandina Beach?

I loved you, Shrimp Fest. I loved every bit of you.

dance party

For those of you following me, life is getting a lot smoother. The transitions from job to job have been exponentially easy and the grace of God is carrying me through. Am I completely exhausted at the end of the day that I fall asleep in my clothes? Only once this week, other than that we are almost at smooth sailing, friends!

Being that I hang out with some of the raddest and baddest in Jax, last night we had a dance party and what started off slow quickly turned into a sweaty night full of Oreo Klondike Bars and breakdancing.

Despite it being a school night, it was worth every minute to have it in the middle of the week. Too many of us don’t take a moment to dance it up in our work week so MIXing it up felt right. (Get it? MIXing it up? Hahaha…) I end you with a picture of my honey and I because it also just happened to be our 5 month mark as newlyweds. We glisten with perspiration but its kinda giving us a nice glow!

new jobs, holy moly

The rest of my week was a lively one. I haven’t been this consumed with work in months, it feels really good but really not good all at once. William and I haven’t had as much “us” time as we’re used to, it’s all about rearranging things and getting through that turning point.

If you didn’t already know (how could you if we’re not facebook friends?) I got a job with Girls, Inc. of Jacksonville! I will be the Kindergarten Enrichment Coordinator and am taking over my friend Audra’s old spot. Completely motivated is how I feel, almost empowered because I’m on a team that is an advocate for girls to be strong, smart and bold. This is really only the first step towards my dreams, it’s captivating the way that God does things. More on those thoughts later though…

This week I was from one job to the other, I also work at Urban Outfitters now. I’m completely exhausted. Once I get my old job done and out of the way, I’ll be caught up on sleep and my focus will be on this new little story we’re starting. I CAN’T WAIT!

Admittedly, we’ve been able to still have fun in the midst of so many job changes. The Art Walk on Wednesday night was crazy. So much was going on, we even stumbled upon a newer restaurant called Chew that I’m hoping William will take me too soon. (The prices are perfect! $7 a plate or so). Thursday night I went out for Audra’s Bachelorette party, my camera is at her house so nothing for you to see. But just know we ended up at Pearl that night and had the best night dancing to Florence + The Machine and Vampire Weekend. Her friends (now my new friends) are OUT.OF.CONTROL! In an extremely good way!

Now it’s 1:45am and I’m just now done with paper flowers for Audra’s wedding. To bed I go, no room for grumpy gills in the morning. I have the fancy title of Design Coordinator for this beautiful ceremony, I have to be in tip top shape to make everything looking perfect for the bride! (and the groom….zilla)

grace and peace,
happy weekend.

murder mystery + date night

Date nights.

We relax and hang out alone, recollect our thoughts of all that’s happened during the week, just spending time with the one we love. This was probably the busiest week I’ve had in a long time that I hadn’t even realized we hadn’t spent a single night alone. My nights out with William are precious to me. While giving all of his attention to me it’s effortless for him, he’s naturally a gentleman.

This week I spent the majority of my time sewing little monsters, in and out of dinner’s with friends and a Murder Mystery Party set in a 1920’s Speakeasy. You know, the us(ual). I dressed as a fortune teller, everything I wore is my normal close which made things super easy. William was a paranoid man who thought aliens/government were getting into his brain. F.U.N.

st. patty’s day

Before I get into our first St. Patrick’s Day together, let me introduce to you the ORIGINAL snuggie…

…..

………!!!

{ahem, excuse the mess}

Complete with snaps to adjust any body type and a sick navajo print. Thrifted – $1! William gives the best presents, he’s the most successful thrift-er I know. Never finding things for himself, always finding them for moi.

Whenever anything is considered a holiday or slightly one, I L.O.V.E. to celebrate it. So naturally, when William came home I asked him what we were doing for St. Patrick’s Day & he said whatever you want, I pronounced that whatever we do we must get green drinks! He laughed and took me on a date. I sadly don’t own a single green shirt, so I opted for a green feather earring and my irish booties.

First stop was Moe’s, which won over Chipotle for us last night because we had that strong craving for heavily processed queso to dip our chips in. We split a meal for $6.41, #WINNING!

Then we stopped by a huge Irish festival in 5 Points held by O’Brothers. It wasn’t quite our scene, a bunch of people decked out in crazy green gear already drunk at 7pm…we opted out and headed over to Kickback’s Gastropub. Where we ran into several people, had our green drinks and made it home and in bed before 10pm.

POSTSCRIPT: My friend Eshy from Sweet Slice of the Foubister Life suggests adding my snuggie to the next 30×30. For the record, the second I put it on we thought the same thing. It’s so chic, completely versatile and hey, I can unsnap that baby and have a picnic on it in an instant!

eighteen + tuesday foodies

O’ Jax, how I love you for dropping your temps. It’s allowing me to not only wear my 30×30
but it also makes me feel better that I’m at work instead of laying at the beach.

We had the ultimate Tuesday yesterday, a day every foodie would love. For lunch William and I had a date at Chipotle where he won the GOLDEN BURRITO. Then our friend Paris, whose moving back to LA made us home-cooked Korean food, in which we indulged then cleansed our palettes with strawberries and vino while discussing American Idol and choosing our favorites.

Last night was one for the books, I’m going to miss our Korean friend but who knows…LA may just be in our future and we’ll reunite again.

outfit fifteen + friends

Our morning conversation…

W: Today is going to be a good day. Everything that happens today is going to be great!

J: Why do you say that?

W: I just know it! Today’s going to be perfect.

An early service at River City Church, two Dreamette banana milkshakes, lots of thrifting, one flea market visit and a potluck later…I’d say William was spot on.

I cannot imagine a better person to spend the rest of my life with. Today alone is evidence enough of the way we mesh; we absolutely, positively go hand in hand. No if’s or but’s about it.

And for you dear friends, outfit #15.
denim shirt, american apparel leggings, keds.

forgetful

Aaaah, I’m the worst.
Tomorrow is Catalyst One Day and we’re leaving at 5am to be in Orlando by 8, then after all that fun to be had we’re driving to Cape Coral to visit my side of the fam. We’ve been busy busy, packing and cleaning and finishing things before we go on our mini-trip. I say all of this to say that I forgot to have William take my picture to show you day 5, outfit 6*. Not to worry, we’ll catch up tomorrow.

Packing has been great when you only have a limited amount of clothes you’re “allowed” to wear – you bring it all! Haha! I’m worried because we’re headed into 80 degree weather, and we’re experiencing 60’s here, so my articles of choice were a little warmer…but it’s BEACH WEATHER! Maybe we can slip away for some R&R amidst the waves.

I leave you with a cute picture of my husband and his favorite little human being ever.
I secretly think about having our own children…like everyday, aahhh!

mukti ball

Last night we were asked to take pictures at the Mukti Semi-Formal Ball…a dinner party put on to raise awareness for Human Trafficking. They wanted a photobooth and provided us with everything, we simply styled the shoot and William snapped away. I sat there and looked pretty while handing out his business cards, and drinking a strong can of coke 😉

The inside of the dinner was so beautiful, stringed lights everywhere and the word “Freedom” hanging from the ceiling. We had a complimentary italian dinner (as a token for providing photography) and heard an incredible speech from Kristen (who works with Mukti Imports; a company that sells handmade sari’s, blankets and bags made by Indian women freed from the sex trade). She spent 5 years working in the Red Light District in Calcutta, India. She was so open and honest about her experience there and how she sees the exact same thing here in America.

Then we danced the night away to celebrate the freedom that comes from Christ:
